Description

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is one of the largest and most renowned teaching hospital trusts in the UK, located at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus - an accredited UK academic health and science centre which brings together academia, industry, and healthcare. As a leading centre for clinical care, research and education; and with a history of advancing medicine and providing compassionate care, our commitment to delivering outstanding patient outcomes and pioneering innovation in healthcare is inherent. With a strong focus on collaboration, digital transformation, and infrastructure development, CUH plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of health and care both regionally and nationally.

We are now seeking an exceptional individual to join our Executive Team as Chief Digital and Infrastructure Officer (CDIO). This is a critical leadership role, responsible for setting the strategic direction and overseeing the delivery of all digital and core enabling infrastructure across the Trust. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CDIO will provide visionary leadership to ensure our digital systems, estate, and infrastructure are future-ready, safe, and aligned with our ambition to transform care delivery and improve clinical outcomes.

The CDIO will lead the development and implementation of CUH’s Digital and Infrastructure strategies, ensuring that our services are modern, efficient, and designed around the needs of patients and staff. This includes stewardship of our Epic electronic patient record system, oversight of major construction projects including two pioneering new hospitals –the Cambridge Children’s Hospital and the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital; and strategic planning across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The role also encompasses responsibility for ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards related to estates and facilities, and for fostering a culture of digital inclusion and innovation.

We are looking for a dynamic and inclusive leader with significant senior management experience at or near Board level gained within an environment of comparable complexity and scale. You will bring a proven track record of delivering large-scale digital and/or estates transformation programmes, alongside strong strategic, interpersonal, and influencing skills. Above all else, you will demonstrate a passion for improving outcomes through innovation, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and sustainability.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of one of the UK’s most forward-thinking NHS trusts. If you are ready to lead at scale and make a lasting impact on healthcare delivery, we would be delighted to hear from you.
